Theater
Starting in 2016, I picked up a camera to observe my closest friends, who were all musicians. Hanging out with them felt isolating at first—I didn’t know how to play guitar—but then the camera became a sort of instrument for me.
Concerts became my main stomping grounds, and I photographed my friends playing alot of shows. Gradually, I moved into portraiture for various musicians, which then led to album and magazine covers.
I’ve always been an avid music listener; the experience of growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, a “music city,”lent itself to my inclination towards music. A large part of how I see and feel about the world is inspired by music; the sequencing of my photographs is inspired by music; the way I think an image reverberates with a person’s soul can be in terms of music.

When I moved to New York, I wore a guitar pick necklace given to me by my friend, Chloe, the first musician I ever photographed. The pick reminded me not only of music, but the beginning of my photography.
There has been a consistent urge inside of me to photograph DIY scenes, not merely to document their histories, but to assert an aesthetic vision. Therefore, the motive behind my music photography, as with all my other work, is to underline what personally interests me as a photographer.
