© 2024 Marcus Maddox

An artist (b. 1994 Nashville, TN) whose photographs are primarily concerned with human intimacy. Inspired by the sensibilities of Romanticism, Maddox sets out to express a spontaneous overflow of strong feelings. His photographs of young people across various American cities imbue a cinematic atmosphere to an otherwise mundane reality. Drawn towards the personal, his purpose is to materialize his evolving world view through images and text, with a keen sense of design. He believes the best home for a photograph is a book, and stands for the inordinate power of a good sequence.

Maddox’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in the United States and internationally. His work has been collected by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. His slideshow exhibition, Hey Lover, premiered at the Roxy Cinema in New York in 2024. His work has appeared in publications including, The New York Times, Interview Magazine, TIME, The New Yorker, American Chordata, and New York Magazine.
