Pom Poms
Pom Poms is a series of photographs of audiences in DIY music scenes in Nashville, Philadelphia and New York. This work started in 2016 and has carried on today. I wanted to show how the relationships and styles within a crowd make up the atmosphere of a scene, rather than focusing solely on the musicians themselves.
In Nashville, an influx of color was in the scene; vibrance and nostalgia was everywhere. Friend groups seemed as though they were from another decade. Each event, no matter how low the production, always had a touch of glamour. My flash illuminated this world, aiding my attempt at creating a dreamscape.

Philadelphia caused my sense of the scene to change. Darkness was let in, and the light I chose was more natural. I started shooting in black and white to focus less on the surface, and more on what was happening inside the minds of the subjects. Emotion mattered more to me; getting a sense of the dark atmosphere became important to me. This style carried over into my pictures of the scene in New York.
